Alice received an eviction notice from public housing based on a “guest” being arrested in her apartment after she called the police on her abuser.
Jeremy nearly lost his housing voucher because he couldn’t pay both his own gas bill and that of the previous tenant.
Michelle was almost evicted for graffiti because her grandson was caught drawing on the stairwell wall.
In each of these cases and in every housing matter we address, we seek to both preserve our clients’ housing and address the reasons they were at risk in the first place.
Sometimes that means supportive services such as domestic violence counseling, financial literacy classes, or chemical dependency support. For some, we simply demonstrate to a judge or jury that our client has done nothing wrong.
Our Housing Law Program specializes in eviction defense including landlord/tenant and subsidized housing disputes. Our primary guideline for case acceptance is the presence of a valid legal defense to any eviction action.
